Description:

Alarielle isn’t in a bad place in general in campaign – Sisters of Avelorn are arguably the best archers in the game, and she makes them better. However, her forest spirit gimmick is pretty terrible; they don’t benefit from redline skills or tech, and honestly even if they did you’d still be better off using generic High Elf stuff anyways – it’s hard to top Phoenix Guard and Star Dragons. So… I added Forest Dragons and made forest spirits better.

IN THEORY this should not significantly change Avelorn’s overall power level – honestly I think T5 Swordmaster/Phoenix Guard//Star Dragon armies will still be better overall – but hopefully offers a different gameplay style especially in the early to midgame.

  • Forest spirits now benefit from redline buffs and SHOULD get most/all tech bonuses. Tech wise, Dryads count as Spearmen, Treekin count as Phoenix Guard, Treemen and Forest Dragons both count as ‘dragons’ for most purposes. Skill descriptions updated, technologies not so much.
  • At higher levels, you can unlock skills that give significant bonuses to individual Forest Spirit units. At 2 skill points a pop they’re not cheap (for balance purposes), but fully upgraded Forest Dragons can (mostly) hang with Star Dragons, Treekin become almost comically tanky, Dryads turn into lightning fast lawnmowers against infantry, and Treemen tear up Large targets!
  • Alarielle’s magic tree got a minor rework, replacing some of her mediocre T2 spells with Hand of Glory, Birona’s Timewarp, and Regrowth. In keeping with her supportive schtick she didn’t get any new attack spells, but should be able to REALLY turbocharge her army!
  • Alarielle’s trait now gives 15% magic resistance to her army. Should help a bit with Sister of Avelorn friendly fire on Treemen early on in particular.
  • Handmaidens now have access to a Great Eagle mount. More offensively potent than her other mount options, and better at range, however it is MUCH squishier than the alternatives.

As a whole I think Avelorn is in a really good spot after these changes, and I don’t want to add any Wood Elf units (there’s mods for that), but if you have any feedback or suggestions for further changes I am all ears!
