Hero RPG Skill Overhaul
This mod is a complete overhaul of the hero skill tree system. With this mod all non-legendary heroes will gain fewer skillpoints over their 40 levels (typically they gain 4 skillpoints, but this depends on race) which they can spend on a collection of ‘careers’. The goal is twofold – to reduce skillpoint spam and to give you some RPG customisation of your non-legendary heroes.
This system was inspired by the excellent Warhammer Fantasy RPG, with a lot of careers and their descriptions being taken from WFRP 1st and 2nd edition!
Immortality is gone! Instead, heroes have a random chance to die every turn when wounded (wounded for any reason – falling in battle, being wounded by a hero action, critically failing to perform a hero action, etc). If you rather liked being immortal for some reason and you have the Mod Configuration Tool: Reborn installed there’s an option to reenable it.
At a baseline, every hero will gain 4 skillpoints at levels 5, 10, 20 and 30, and will have a 10% chance to die every turn while wounded. This can change depending upon the race. Some races are more likely to die than others, some gain more or fewer skillpoints, etc.
For example;
Skaven have a 20% chance to die and do not gain a 4th skillpoint at level 30, but receive free XP every turn until level 20.
Lizardmen do not gain a skillpoint at level 5 but do gain a skillpoint at level 40, and Saurus have a reduced chance to die.
Mortal Races such as Humans, Orcs and Skaven are worse at magic than Immortal Races such as Elves and Vampires, and have worse spellcasting as a result. Typically this means they can’t learn to overcast some of the more powerful spells.
This isn’t savegame compatible, either to add or remove to a campaign in progress!
This mod should be compatible with every major overhaul (Lucky’s Overhaul, Cataph’s Boyz Will Be Boyz, Radious and SFO). New heroes added by these overhauls may be using their default 40 skillpoint skill trees and receiving 40 skillpoints as usual, but some have compatible skilltrees.
Any mod that adds a new hero *should* be compatible – they won’t have new skill trees, but they’ll still get 40 skill points, they won’t randomly die while wounded, etc etc.
Lastly, don’t use mods that increase the amount of skillpoints heroes receive, or that increase the level cap. My mod will *probably* overwrite the change, but if it doesn’t it will break everything. Also, mods that refund skillpoints are not strictly compatible – they should be fine for refunding lord skillpoints, just don’t use them on your heroes.
