Shadow Ops Classes For LWOTC
EDIT: Here is a spreadsheet of all 8 class’ main trees. Only includes names, no descriptions.[docs.google.com]
Another version of Shadow Ops? And it’s Kiruka publishing it? Let me start by giving you some backstory.
At one point, Favid released a version of Shadow Ops to be played with Long War of the Chosen, which I helped put the configs together for back before I even had Modbuddy (very basic stuff like swapping ability names and making XCOM decks). It was only ever released on the #shadowops channel on the XCom 2 Modding Discord, so it never became super widely known. That version has become really outdated, though. In the time since, LWOTC has added many new abilities as well as completely overhauling the AP system and XCOM ability rows, and I’ve spent a lot of time getting better at balancing classes for the LWOTC environment. Favid has given me permission to take over that version of Shadow Ops, which I am now releasing on the Workshop. This is not just a straight port and compatibility patch, it is also a rebalance.
- The classes from that mod are disabled by default, replaced by these new versions. LWOTC’s own classes are not disabled by default.
- Dedicated XComLW_Overhaul.ini and XComPromotionUIMod.ini to add basic compatibility like proper costs for pistol skills.
- Although you will need Shadow Ops Perk Pack for this mod to work, you will not need any of its dependencies, as they are all integrated in some form into LWOTC.
- Brand new Tier 1, 2, 3, and 4 XCOM row decks for each of the 8 Shadow Ops classes.
- Main tree reshuffles for all classes other than the Dragoon, which is the only one I considered to have aged pretty well in terms of not being too OP or too behind the times, with diverse build options. Some classes have only minor differences, and some are quite a bit different. The Infantry gets more Arc Thrower skills, and the Survivalist gets more Sawed-Off Shotgun skills. A lot of the rebalancing is based on my own experiences of "I always pick this skill at this rank, or I never pick this skill because this other skill just outshines it", so you may need to tweak the trees yourself.
- Many new skills have been added to the trees that weren’t present in the original mod, and some abilities that I don’t consider balanced for LWOTC, or that have newer versions or equivalents in LWOTC, are no longer present in any trees. They still work though, so add them back if you want. I have not added any custom skills of my own, or any from mods other than Shadow Ops or LWOTC.
- Some new localizations for a few skills to avoid name overlap with existing LWOTC skills. They may not override properly, in which case you can just copy and paste them over top of Shadow Ops Perk Pack’s relevant localizations in the XComGame.int file there (or just ignore them, they’re just names).
- Scrappers can now get the base game Ranger’s Slash ability as an XCOM deck roll. I did not want to give them Fleche as they already can get a substantial melee damage boost with Bare Knuckle.
- Dragoons can now get the Rainmaker ability as an XCOM deck roll. You need the Shen’s Last Gift DLC for this. If you don’t have it, you should replace this skill with something else.
- Assassin (too OP for LWOTC)
- Disabling Shot (replaced by LWOTC’s version which can stun for 2 turns on a crit in lieu of dealing crit damage)
- Fearsome (replaced by LWOTC’s Apex Predator skill, they have almost identical functionality)
- Focus (too OP for LWOTC)
- Good Eye (replaced by LWOTC’s Concentration skill which does the same thing)
- Noise Maker (Ultrasonic Lures are not currently obtainable in LWOTC due to balance reasons, pending an overhaul which might happen who knows when)
- Overkill (replaced by LWOTC’s version which is very similar)
- Ready For Anything (replaced by LWOTC’s version, they have different localizations and some minor differences in compatibility, but the basic function is the same)
- Resilience (the Shadow Ops version, too OP for LWOTC)
- Sprint (too OP for LWOTC)
- Survival Instinct (replaced by LWOTC’s version which has different default values)
- Tactician (too OP for LWOTC, also doesn’t work on SMGs like it says it does)
- Tracking (replaced by LWOTC’s version which has a shorter effective range by default)
- Vanish (too OP for LWOTC)
- Devil’s Luck
- Entrench
- First Aid
- Fortify (the Shadow Ops version)
- Heat Ammo
- Lightfoot
- Packmaster
- Pyromaniac
- Scrounger
- Shields Up
- Shield Surge
- Aim Assist
- Avenger
- Blinding Protocol
- Brutality
- Corpsman
- Dedication
- Disassembly
- Inspire Agility
- Lead The Target
- Lick Your Wounds
- Lightning Slash
- Lock N Load
- Maim
- None Shall Pass
- Open Fire
- Predator
- Preservation
- Quick Zap
- Reposition (LWOTC version)
- Return Fire (LWOTC version for primary weapons)
- Ruthless
- Scrap Metal
- Stiletto
- Super Charge
- Target Focus
- That’s Close Enough
- Trench Warfare
- Unlimited Power
- Weapon Handling
- Zone of Control (LWOTC version)
If you want to leave feedback regarding balance, feel free to, but I’m not likely to change things post-release other than what’s needed for bug fixes. I’d rather wipe peoples’ own configs as little as possible here.
Note: ABB Perk Pack is required for a single ability, Trained Sniper, for the Survivalist. This makes them behave more like they did in Long War 2, by only gaining Squadsight when equipped with a Sniper Rifle as a primary weapon.
– The ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up ability tree bug should be a thing of the past. Make sure you’re running a recent version of Long War of the Chosen (if you don’t see a Predator_LW ability in your LWOTC’s ClassData, you need to update).
Pretty much just Favid. Let me know if you’re not Favid and think you need credit too.
