Heavy Class For LWOTC
This has been long overdue. Here to add to your soldier roster is none other than the Heavy class, inspired by the class of the same name in XCOM: Enemy Unknown (and Enemy Within). Check out the main class tree here[docs.google.com], which includes notes on the couple of new abilities the Heavy has. As the Heavy is set up for LWOTC, they have a 4-tier XCOM row as well as the pistol row in addition to their three main ability rows. They equip a Cannon as their primary weapon, and a Rocket Launcher as their secondary. They also have a custom class icon based off of a couple of Ketaros icons; I did the first draft and nelVleSiS cleaned it up.
The Heavy starts with the Suppression, Rocket Launcher and Blast Off abilities at Squaddie rank, and has 3 specializations in their main ability tree.
- No Retreat is about setting up and holding a position, even when outnumbered; as long as you can ensure the Heavy doesn’t get flanked or engaged in melee, they’ll be able to lay down suppressing fire and not have much to worry about in terms of retaliation fire.
- Loose Cannon is an aggressive, mobile tree that’s well-suited for timed smash-and-grab type missions and doesn’t care as much about good positioning as the other specializations.
- Munitions pushes the cannon aside to focus entirely on the Rocket Launcher and other explosives; although it relies heavily on items or abilities with limited charges, this is the tree that makes the Heavy stand out the most from other classes.
- In addition to the requirements listed on the side, Long War of the Chosen is required.[www.nexusmods.com] You could repurpose the Heavy for use with regular WOTC, but that would at the minimum require the LW2 Classes and Perks mod, plus a lot of restructuring of the classdata to swap out the LWOTC versions of skills with the LW2 Classes and Perks versions (you might also need Extended Perk Pack). This is entirely possible to do even without ModBuddy (just config edits), so don’t ask me to do it for you.
- While not at all a hard requirement, I highly recommend Mod Jam if you’re a LWOTC player. This will integrate Iridar’s Rocket Launchers and Rockets in a way that fits in better with LWOTC (such as making the launchers single-build items and building rockets from corpses following the appropriate autopsy rather than rolling a random reward deck).
- If you have Weapon Skin Replacer but not Mitzruti’s Perk Pack or Chimera Squad Ability Icons, Minelayer will be missing its ability icon. There are multiple options to fix this: either subscribe to one of those two mods, or go into ABB Perk Pack’s XComWeaponSkinReplacer.ini and comment out the line referring to the Minelayer ability.
- There is a new localization for the LWRocketLauncher ability, for the purposes of adding a LocLongDescription to it (it never had one before since it wasn’t originally intended to be visible on a class tree). Other than that, there should be no conflicts to speak of.
- Iridar for making the Rocket Launchers mod, which inspired me to make this class.
- Ketaros for making the Ketaros 2D Package, which this mod uses some ability icons from, and which also had the icons I used as a base for the new class icon.
- nelVleSiS for helping me polish up said new class icon.
If you don’t see your name in the credits and think you should be there, let me know and I’ll add you ASAP.
