ИКИ АН СССР – головной академический институт по исследованию и использованию космического пространства в интересах фундаментальных наук.
ИКИ выполняет экспериментальные научные работы по таким направлениям космической физики, как астрофизика, физика планет и малых тел Солнечной системы, физика Солнца и солнечно-земных связей, космическая плазма и исследования в области нелинейной геофизики. ИКИ поручены также подготовка программ научных космических исследований, разработка и испытания комплексов научной аппаратуры по проектам, принятым Российской академией наук и Государственной корпорацией по космической деятельности «Роскосмос».
The IKI of the USSR Academy of Sciences is the leading academic institute for the exploration and use of outer space in the interests of fundamental sciences.
IKI carries out experimental scientific work in such areas of space physics as astrophysics, physics of planets and small bodies of the Solar system, physics of the Sun and solar-terrestrial connections, space plasma and research in the field of nonlinear geophysics. IKI is also entrusted with the preparation of programs for scientific space research, the development and testing of scientific equipment complexes according to the projects adopted by the Russian Academy of Sciences and the State Corporation for Space Activities
