Description:

Allows to change appearance of individual weapons through in-game interface. This mod is a spiritual successor to XSkin System by robojumper for vanilla XCOM 2, though they are entirely different under the hood.

HOW TO USE THE MOD

The mod adds the "RESKIN WEAPONS" button under the "WEAPON UPGRADE" button of the Armory menu. Click on it to enter the Reskin Weapons screen. There you can select new skins for weapons currently equipped on the selected soldier.

>>> EXAMPLE USES <<<

Reskinned weapons are automatically renamed and their inventory icons are replaced. Reskinned weapons are marked by green asterisks on their inventory icons so you can tell them apart from non-reskinned weapons. Both of these behaviors are configurable.

Reskinning is purely cosmetic. A shotgun reskinned to a sniper rifle is still a shotgun as far as all gameplay mechanics are concerned.

Any weapon can be reskinned and any weapon can be used as skin. This goes for all mod-added weapons, including enemy weapons, WSR Ghost Templates and weapons that were hidden with WSR or Item Hider.

Keep in mind that enemy weapons were not intended to be used by XCOM soldiers, so using many of them as skins will lead to janky visuals.

SKIN FILTERS

The lower right corner of the Reskin Weapons screen has several buttons that let you toggle SKIN FILTERS that determine which weapon skins you can use for the selected weapon.

By default, the mod will let you reskin the selected weapon only into a weapon that:
– You own (this will filter out Ghost Templates)
– Can potentially be equipped by this soldier into the same inventory slot as the selected weapon, e.g. Rangers can normally equip Assault Rifles and Shotguns as their primary weapons.
– Has the same weapon category as the currently selected weapon, e.g. Shotgun to Shotgun.

These limitations guarantee that the reskinned weapon will look and work perfectly fine, and it also keeps the list of usable skins reasonably short.

You can click the skin filter buttons to disable the filters and unleash the full power of the mod. Reskin grenade launchers into swords, swords into sniper rifles, medkits into grenades, use enemy weapons as skins, you can do it all. Just manage your expectations, as most of the crazy stuff you can do will look rather janky when the reskinned weapon is used in tactical.

Once again: Reskin weapons at your own risk. You may have to deal with – purely visual – issues like missing animations, broken visualization, invisible weapons.

Known issue: If you disable skin filters, the skin list tends to get cluttered by redundant or unusable skins. The mod has a configurable exclusion list for skins that should never appear in the skin list, even if all filters are disabled. By default the exclusion list already contains all of the "junk" skins from vanilla, WOTC and DLCs, but mod-added weapons are another story. If you post your exclusion configuration here, I will be glad to add it to the mod when I can, but please don’t go "hey add exclusion config for X mod k thx bye".

HOW TO REMOVE SKINS

Skins are removed on the Reskin Weapons screen. It can be done by:
– Equipping a "Remove Skin" skin.
– Clicking on the small cross icon on the reskinned weapon’s inventory icon.
– Clicking the "Remove All Skins" button in the lower right corner, which will remove all skins from all weapons equipped on the currently selected soldier.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

XSkin can rescale weapons selected on the Reskin Weapons screen (see screenshots).

REQUIREMENTS

X2 WOTC Community Highlander of any version is required.
[WotC] Mod Config Menu is supported, but not a hard requirement.

COMPATIBILITY

Can be added mid campaign, but should not be removed mid campaign.

The mod has a Mod Class Override to XGWeapon class, and will be incompatible with any other mod that also overrides this class. I’m not aware of any WOTC mods that use this override, so you should be safe there.

Classless XCOM : MINT – incompatible, as it replaces the RESKIN WEAPONS button with its own.

Other than that, the mod should be compatible with anything and everything, including LWOTC and other big overhauls.

CONFIGURATION

The mod is highly configurable through various configuration files in:

..steamappsworkshopcontent2685002337161588Config

Mod Config Menu also has a lot of options.

COMPANION MODS

[WOTC] Item Hider by Iridar can be used to hide unwanted weapons from HQ inventory. Hidden items can still be used as skins.

HELP, I DON’T SEE ANY SKINS

Disable skin filters by clicking buttons in the lower right corner of the Reskin Weapons screen.

HELP, RESKINNING DOESN’T WORK

Make sure Framerate Smoothing is disabled in game settings, then Regenerate User Config. If it doesn’t help, follow other troubleshooting advice on that page.
