Why this mod?

Africa has not received much love from Paradox other than the Mamluks and a few other North African nations. Other mods, including the excellent Missions Expanded have filled in the gaps with adding new immersion for other African countries such as Mali, Kongo, and Kilwa. This mod has been created to fill in another gap by adding an immersive experience for Butua.

Butua Historical Background

You may be wondering why an immersive mod for a country that starts as a vassal in the beginning? Butua, and its people the Shona, have an incredibly rich history. Butua and Mutapa were the remnants of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe, a powerful kindom in the region for about 300 years. With the dissolution of Zimbabwe, Butua chose to keep the tradition of Zimbabwe alive, while Mutapa chose a new path. It is this reason that Butua is the natural candidate for a revival of Zimbabwe.

It is also important to note that the Shona people were known as fierce warriors. The Rozwi Empire that came to be after the fall of Mutapa pushed Portugal out of their lands completely until their own empire fell due to in-fighting. Scholars actually debate that many of the same military tactics used by the famous Zulu against the British were actually created by the Rozwi two centuries before.

What does this mod do?

This mod gives much needed flavor and immersion for Butua. What if Butua was able to unite the Shona people again? Could they unite Africa?

It adds the following:

– Its own unique mission tree with 74 missions.
– Adds 32 new events, including event chains to convert to Islam or Christianity. Also adds an event chain, based on circumstances, to change to the Rozwi Empire (in name only).
– One unique decision to form the Kingdom of Zimbabwe which changes the name, flag, colors, and national ideas of your country.
– Changes Unit sprites from the generic Central African units to a new set using units from Rights of Man DLC, to make it more fitting for a growing power.
– Changes the positive local missionary strength for Fetishist provinces back to 0. This was done as many African tribes were very religious and even to this day practice much of their old traditions. The game having fetishist provinces easier to convert is just not very historical overall.
– Adds an additional modifier for each Fetishist cult to be more in line with Hinduism’s bonuses for its nations.

Planned Updates

– Any mod bug fixes as needed
– Possible changes to Fetishism to add more immersion and realism

Compatibility

– Is compatible with most mods unless it changes the Butua mission tree
– Is compatible with "The Great Exhibition" mod. Please note that if you do not have "The Great Exhibition", this mod’s event pictures will be extended over the text window due to being a different size.
– Is not compatible with the vanilla map or any other map mod that add or change province IDs. This is the Lux in Tenebris (LIT) edition. I have also created a compatible version for the vanilla map. You can find that version of the mod here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2373980929

Shout Out
Just wanted to give a formal shout out to the Missions Expanded team. Your awesome work inspired me to create my own mod. Keep up the great work! Also as I personally use their mod, another shout out to the LIT team. Great job!
