Appeared during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the unofficial name of barrelless field rocket artillery systems (primarily and initially – BM-13, and later also BM-8, M-31 and others). Such installations were actively used by the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War. The popularity of the nickname turned out to be so great that post-war MLRS on automobile chassis, in particular BM-14 and BM-21 Grad, were often called Katyushas in colloquial speech.
ZIS-5 ("three-ton") – Soviet medium-duty truck with a carrying capacity of 3 tons; the second largest (after GAZ-AA) truck of the 1930s – 1940s, one of the main transport vehicles of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War.
