Monster Variety Project Legacy
Now considered to be the ‘Old’ Monster Variety. V2.0 is in the works and will be released as a seperate mod.

Monster Variety is a mod that aims to expand the monster content of Darkest Dungeon.
Next to monsters it also adds new mini-bosses, trinkets, items and quests all centered around monsters
– Prefixed Monsters that get new effects and/or abilities based on the Prefix
– New monsters with new sets of abilities and mechanics
– New wandering Mini-Bosses that have a chance to drop boss trinkets
– Monster Trophy trinket for each prefix
– Craftable spell trinkets
– 6 School of Magic quirks that you gain and level by using the spells.
– New quest where you delve into the ruins to search for Spell Research Tables curios to craft spells
– 4 powerful monsters that use the spells
– New collector heads for you to collect
You will notice that some of the trinkets have damage of a certain type like ‘Fire’.
Each damage type gives a hidden damage boost based on a condition.
Below are all the current damage types:
– FIRE: +1 Damage vs Beast
– LIGHT: +1 Damage if torch above 50
– SHARP: +1 Damage vs Bleeding
– TOXIC: +1 Damage vs Man
– MAGIC: +1 Damage vs Eldritch
– DARK: +1 Damage if torch below 50
– HOLY: +1 Damage vs Unholy
– POISON: +1 Damage vs Blighted
– SHOCK: +1 Damage vs Marked
– FROST: +1 Damage vs Stunned
I added these damage types mostly for asthetic reasons as it looks nice on the tooltip xD.
Cultist Simulator Trinkets
Both mods work together without the patch. The patch just adds Monster Variety interactions with the Study Table introduced in Cultist Simulator Trinkets.
Herbs of the Wild
Built-in support for Herbs of the Wild made by CarnifeX. If both mods are enabled then some monsters from Monster Variety have a chance to drop herbs.
M.E.P.E: Mafe Extreme Provisions Extender
This mod enables the provision screen to hold more items. (Like Spell Research, The Blood, …). Handy for people who had issues with the screen not fitting my estate items. Requirement for those with a heavy modded game.
Should be compatible with all mods as I use custom named files.
For it to play nice with other monster mods it’s advised to add -disable_monster_pre_loading to your launch options in steam.
This parameter makes it so it doesn’t load all monster files at the start of the dungeon.
This helps with loading times and crashes.
