Description:

When I saw Wolf’s Asset Pack, I knew I had to do something with those very nice looking Battle Rifles and Strike Rifles. So, I made new templates for them and brought them to LWOTC (and regular WOTC if you’re willing to do some config work) as entirely new weapons rather than cosmetic replacers.

Note that all weapon comparisons I’m about to make are based on LWOTC’s versions.

Let’s talk about Battle Rifles first:
  • This is a Cannon category weapon, intended to give LWOTC Gunners more choices.
  • Their damage stats are the same as an equivalent-tier Assault Rifle. They have slightly smaller magazines than Cannons (4 shots), but they can infiltrate much faster.
  • In terms of accuracy, they are more accurate than a Cannon up close but not as much as an Assault Rifle, and are less accurate than a Cannon at long range.
  • Battle Rifles of all tiers have a signature ability, Russian Roulette. When on Overwatch, if the soldier’s shot misses, they’ll stay on Overwatch and try again as long as they have ammo. Note that this is only for the primary weapon, and it only works with standard Overwatch (not other reaction shots like Return Fire or Avenger).

And now for Strike Rifles:
  • This is a Sniper Rifle category weapon, intended to give LWOTC Sharpshooters more choices.
  • Their damage stats are the same as an equivalent-tier Assault Rifle. They have slightly bigger magazines than Sniper Rifles (4 shots) and can infiltrate slightly faster, but don’t get an innate crit chance bonus.
  • In terms of accuracy, they are more accurate than a Sniper Rifle up close but not as accurate as a Cannon, and are less accurate than a Sniper Rifle at long range.
  • Strike Rifles of all tiers have a signature ability, No Scope. Once per turn, the soldier can fire a standard shot for one action that doesn’t end the turn, but can’t use Squadsight or get critical hits. This has a lot of combo potential with LWOTC’s Sharpshooters, whether they go for the Death From Above, Snap Shot or Holotargeter builds.
  • They still require 2 actions to fire a standard shot or use Overwatch, just like a Sniper Rifle.

And here are some miscellaneous features:

  • Battle Rifles and Strike Rifles can both equip Iridar’s Bayonets and Underbarrel Weapons, and also come with configs adding visual attachments for those, as well as Iridar’s Speed Loader and Experimental Magazine (Spark Arsenal) and SolarNougat’s Heavy Barrels. The Ghost Template for the Coil Assault Rifle is also included, mostly as preparation for another mod I’ve got planned.
  • A dedicated XComWOTCOpenWeaponRestrictions.ini, which serves the purpose of adding the secondary underbarrel ammo items to more soldiers based on their equippable primary weapons.
  • A dedicated XComLW_InfiltrationSettings.ini to add infiltration values to Battle Rifles and Strike Rifles.

Mod requirements and optional companion mods:
  • Wolf’s Asset Pack is a hard requirement in order for these weapons to look like anything.
  • Weapon Skin Replacer is a hard requirement for attachments to work properly.
  • Bayonets and Underbarrel Weapons are optional, but I highly recommend them. If you want them to also be balanced for LWOTC, check out Mod Jam…and get ready to fall down the rabbit hole.
  • Open Class Weapon Restrictions is only required if you want to be able to use Underbarrel Shotgun Ammo or Underbarrel Grenade Ammo in your soldiers’ secondary slot if they’re locked to Cannons or Sniper Rifles.
  • Spark Arsenal and Heavy Barrels For LWOTC are only required if you want to be able to use Speed Loaders/Experimental Magazines and Heavy Barrel attachments respectively.

(Please note that all of my personal testing has been with LWOTC.)

If you run into bugs, bring them to my attention and I’ll try my best to fix them. You can give me balance feedback if you want, but everything’s configurable, so I’m not likely to change that sort of thing for this particular mod.

Conflicts:

These are actually conflicts between Wolf’s Asset Pack and Long War of the Chosen, but seeing as how LWOTC is still in beta and not on Steam Workshop, I guess I’m handling this stuff.

  • You may run into missing icons with LWOTC (such as the Reaper’s Lingering Shadow ability). In order to fix this, you need to delete the UILibrary_LW_Overhaul.upk from Wolf’s Asset Pack’s Content folder.
  • You may run into missing sounds on some Laser weapons. In order to fix this, you need to delete the LWAssaultRifle_LS.upk from Wolf’s Asset Pack’s Content folder.
  • See the second image in this mod’s gallery to see the list of files in Wolf’s Asset Pack’s Content folder that you need to keep. All of the rest can be deleted to reduce the file size and prevent problems.

Future plans:
  • This mod is basically done, minus any potential bug fixing. I might add a WSR config to change Strike Rifles’ animations from Vekor Rifle ones to Sniper Rifle ones at some point.

Credits:
  • NotSoLoneWolf for making Wolf’s Asset Pack, which this mod’s weapons come from.
  • Iridar for making WSR, which is responsible for the visual attachments setup here.
  • Ketaros for making Ketaros 2D Package, which this mod borrows ability icons from for Russian Roulette and No Scope.
  • Teridax from the LWOTC Discord for thorough testing and detailed reports of some very cursed issues between Wolf’s Asset Pack and LWOTC, which ended up being instrumental in helping me release many hotfixes for this mod.
  • Red1 from the LWOTC Discord for the Russian Localization.
  • Knight of NSFW from the LWOTC Discord for the Spanish Localization.

(If I need to credit anyone else, let me know and I will do so ASAP.)
