Description:

This mod is a response to the recent announcement from Paradox that they won’t be adding any new provinces to EU IV anymore.[forum.paradoxplaza.com]. The aim of Expanded Map of Europe is to give a proper facelit to some regions of Europe (and maybe even some surrounding regions) which were ignored for many years, such as Carpathia, the Baltics, Scandinavia or Eastern Europe. A core idea is consistency with the way the map looks in the base game. I want to add a reasonable amount of provinces to each region without balkanizing them way too much. Do not expect Voltaire’s Nightmare level of province update! ^^

Version 1.0 – Carpathia & the Balkans
  • Added 23 new provinces and wastelands to improve the strategic depth of updated regions.
  • Added a slider allowing you to view areas which have more than 5 provinces.
  • Borders of many provinces were redrawn.
  • Changed Moldavian provinces butchered by the Polish mini update; they now follow Prut and Dniester rivers.
  • Reverted province changes introduced in the Polish mini update, allowing you to recreate the eastern border of the German Empire once again.
  • Improved the look of the historical northern border of Hungary/Slovakia.
  • Improved the shape of provinces in Alsace-Lorraine
  • Improved the shape of many Balkan provinces, allowing you to recreate countless historical borders.
  • Improved the shape of almost all Austrian provinces, reverting the changes introduced in Emperor.
  • Improved the shape of many provinces in Poland & Eastern Europe, allowing you to recreate the borders of Austrian Galicia and the Second Polish Republic.

Version 2.0 – Scandinavia & the Baltics

  • Added 19 new provinces to Scandinavia and the Baltics
  • Added new adjacencies to Estonia and Denmark
  • Edited the internal borders within the Livonian Order, allowing creation of the present-day borders of Estonia and Latvia
  • Some provinces were renamed, for example Sjælland > Kobenhavn
  • Changed the culture in Schleswig to Lower Saxon

Version 3.0 – France

  • A very light facelift of France – addition of 7 new provinces
  • Split of the Pyrenees into two wastelands
  • Added the Channel Islands as a separate province, connected to Cotentin via crossing
  • Increased the size of the Channel Islands on the heightmap
  • Split of Luxembourg into Luxembourg and Arlon – allowing you to depict the historical divison with the modern-day shape of Luxembourg
  • Adjusted the borders of Finland and Karelia according to feedback

Version 4.0 – Iberia

  • Addition of 11 new provinces in total
  • New wastelands, such as the Central Chain, the Iberian Chain or the Bethic Chain protecting Granada
  • Split of the Azores into two provinces
  • Added a crossing between the Eastern and Western Azores
  • Added a crossing between Lisboa and Setubal

Version 5.0 – Egypt

  • Addition of 8 new provinces
  • The borders of Egyptian provinces were reverted to pre-1.23 Cradle of Civilization shape
  • Addition of the so-called Al Wahat – Saharan Oases. Since they were usually fiefdoms controlled by various people, they start uncolonized, but you can move your troops through them
  • Province of Aqbah is no longer clipping into the Sinai Peninsula, allowing really clean borders in the Levant
  • Edited the shape of Badiyat Ash Sham wasteland

Version 6.0 – Poland

  • Addition of 6 new provinces to the Polish region
  • Many existing provinces were reshaped
  • Moved Krakow further south to Vistula
  • Cleaner eastern border of Prussia/German Empire
  • Cleaner borders of Austrian Galicia
  • Cleaner borders of Alsace-Lorraine
  • Provinces in Alsace-Lorraine now follow Rhine

Version 7.0 – Ruthenia

  • Addition of 9 new provinces to Ruthenia
  • Minor redistribution of Ruthenian development
  • Moved Polotsk to Minsk area and therefore also Ruthenia region
  • Edited the shapes of provinces to allow as close modern border of Ukraine without ruining other borders as possible
  • Edited the shapes of provinces to allow as close modern border of Belarus without ruining other borders as possible

Version 8.0 – Anatolia & Eastern Balkans

  • Addition of 17 new provinces or wastelands to Bulgaria, Greece and Anatolia
  • Redistribution of the development – Ottomans still start with roughly the same dev and army as before
  • Changed the culture and religion of Smyrna to Greek Orthodox
  • Changed the culture and religion of Skopje and Ohrid to Bulgarian Orthodox
  • OPMs such as Trebizond, Athens and Ramazan were given new provinces
  • Added the Rhodopes wasteland to Bulgaria
  • Added the Pontic Mountains and Taurus wastelands to Anatolia
  • Tweaked the borders of Gumulcine to follow the Nestos river

Version 9.0 – British Isles

  • Added 1 new province to Wessex
  • Added 2 new provinces to Wales
  • Anglesey is now connected to Gwynedd via an adjacency
  • Added 4 new provinces to Scotland
  • Changed the Scottish adjacencies to reflect the province changes
  • Added 6 provinces to Ireland
  • Dublin is now a center of trade
  • Moved the capital of Desmond to the new province of Cork

Version 10.0 – To be announced!

  • This mod is NOT ironman compatible!
  • Since this mod does not add any new areas, countries or cultures, it should be compatible with all mods that do not change the map such as Expanded Mods, Flavor Universalis and many others!
  • Other than that, the only possible issue could be caused by mods that edit province interface windows, since the Expanded Map of Europe adds a slider for areas with more than 5 provinces
  • However, the province slider might cause trouble with other UI mods
  • Most map changes were based on the map from my main project – Ante Bellum.
