Description:

It’s here! This is my overhaul of the base 8 Long War of the Chosen classes: the Technical, Specialist, Grenadier, Gunner, Ranger, Sharpshooter, Assault, and Shinobi. You can find info on the main ability trees on my Google Doc, here.[docs.google.com] If you want to add this mod mid-campaign, you can, but you’ll need to respec all of the soldiers that have any of these classes with the console command respecselectedsoldier while viewing each one in the Armory.

Some main trees have been changed more than others, but the random XCOM row decks have been changed a lot. Way too many changes to list here in detail, but I’ll go over some highlights for each class.

  • The Technical now has Suppression and Roust as additional Squaddie abilities, and the LCPL rank now has some decent alternative picks to compete with the auto-pick ability, Fire In The Hole. There are more abilities that synergize with the Technical’s flamethrower and rocket launcher, as well as other control options for fire-immune enemies.
  • The Specialist has some better options to compete with Full Override, as well as additional sources of Overwatch for themselves and potentially their allies if they opt to pick up Threat Assessment. Field Surgeon has some better competing abilities at CPL.
  • The Grenadier now has Sapper and Flush as additional Squaddie abilities, and their tree has probably been re-arranged the most out of these classes. Full Kit has better competition at MSGT, and it’s now feasible to build a Grenadier that can do well with damage OR support grenades, thanks in part to the return of the vanilla Heavy Ordnance ability.
  • The Gunner’s Combat Knife is no longer merely a decoration; although it plays very different than a Shinobi, it’s entirely possible to do a melee build on your Gunner without relying on specific XCOM deck rolls. The Suppression build is also more attractive now, as Cool Under Pressure and Danger Zone no longer compete, and Terrifying Suppression can actually let Suppression Gunners truly lock down one or more targets.
  • The Ranger can invest more heavily into their Sawed-Off Shotgun, as Scrap Metal is no longer limited to an XCOM deck roll. The Overwatch build is more attractive now as Grazing Attacks is available much sooner, Suppression is no longer occupying the SSGT rank, and Avenger and None Shall Pass allow them even more Overwatch opportunities without investing actions.
  • The Sharpshooter now has Lead The Target as an additional Squaddie ability, which is a very nice way to set up an Overwatch ambush from stealth without having to rely on the "Beaglerush maneuver" (which can be both unreliable and risky depending on enemy behavior). They also have access to the Watchful Eye (Favid’s Extended Perk Pack version) ability at MSGT in place of Serial, which gives more opportunities for a Holotargeter build to fire some shots while still focusing on their main job of painting targets.
  • The Assault now has Dedication as an additional Squaddie ability. Their LCPL auto-pick ability, Lightning Reflexes, has been booted further up the tree to compete with some abilities that actually stand a chance against it. Additionally, it’s now possible to build an Assault who can shoot three times in one turn, and they have more support and control options as well to make the Arc Thrower build more appealing.
  • The Shinobi’s stealth options have improved considerably; they now have more ways to contribute to the mission while still doing their job as scouts. The auto-pick ability, Combatives, has some better competition at CPL rank. Sprint at MSGT for blade Shinobis lets them cover incredible distance for a single Fleche attack, or make a single blue move for a Slash + Fleche combo.
Requirements:

If it’s in Required Items, it’s required. Yes, that also means Long War of the Chosen. No, I’m not making a regular War of the Chosen version. You could pretty easily convert this mod for that purpose if you wanted to.

Conflicts:

There shouldn’t be any. This mod overrides the original 8 LWOTC classes using the same class template names, and also has a small number of Localization overrides for giving some names to the middle ability rows (the same ones used in the LW2 Classes and Perks mod, for consistency). Additionally, this mod will disable the Shadow Ops classes from the Shadow Ops Perk Pack; if you want to use those classes, be sure to grab my LWOTC version here.

Credits:

– The LWOTC devs for making LWOTC, which is obviously the reason this mod exists in the first place.

– Favid and Mitzruti for making the perk packs that allowed me to add more flavor to these classes.

If you don’t see your name in the credits and think you should be there, let me know.
