С 1970 годов у серийных спецавтомобилей «АЗ» на шасси ГАЗ-52, ГАЗ-53, ГАЗ-66, ЗИЛ-130Г и «Урал-375» кузова стали цельнометаллическими, со сварным решётчатым каркасом с двойной обшивкой из стального листа и теплоизоляцией. Вместимость их составляла от 15 до 36 человек, в помещении конвоя устанавливались 3–4 сиденья. Внешне от своих предшественников они отличались скошенными верхними углами кузова вместо скругленных.
Можно отследить две серии «АЗ» – середины 1970-х и 1979–1980 гг., отличающиеся друг от друга кузовами с колёсными нишами и без них соответственно.
Тогда же начала формироваться и «классическая планировка» спецавтомобилей «АЗ» с двумя общими камерами и помещением конвоя в передней части. До этого помещение конвоя (караула) могло располагаться в задней части кузова, а общая камера была одна во всю ширину кузова.
Спецавтомобили ЗИЛ-130Г-АЗ и «Урал-375-АЗ», предназначенные для перевозки осуждённых на объекты работ, не имели одиночных камер, помещение конвоя у них располагалось во всю ширину кузова, с дверями с обоих бортов кузова. Обычно входная дверь в помещение конвоя располагается по правому борту спецавтомобиля.

You can trace two series of "AZ" – the mid-1970s and 1979-1980, differing from each other in bodies with and without wheel arches, respectively.
At the same time, the “classic layout” of the AZ special vehicles began to take shape with two common chambers and a convoy in the front. Prior to this, the premises of the convoy (guard) could be located in the rear of the body, and the common chamber was one in the entire width of the body.
Special vehicles ZIL-130G-AZ and Ural-375-AZ, designed to transport convicts to work sites, did not have single cells, their convoy premises were located in the entire width of the body, with doors on both sides of the body. Usually the entrance door to the convoy premises is located on the starboard side of the special vehicle.
